Plaid Mad Hatter Adult Costume

The Mad Hatter is most certainly a very peculiar fella.  Both his clothes and his personality are preposterous and eclectic.  The Mad Hatter’s name is a reference to that old slang term “as mad as a hatter” that refers to the mental stability of old age hatters.  Many years ago hatters used very harmful chemicals when they treated hat materials like felt and leather.  These chemicals were inhaled by the hatters and were thought to cause some brain damage, trembling, and drastic mood swings.  I think Tim Burton’s conception and Johnny Depp’s portrayal of the wild and eccentric Mad Hatter was fabulous, don’t you?  Like the Hatter is famous for saying – “We’re all mad here” and “I’m not insensitive, I just don’t care”.  The man’s a little crazy but we love him to death and he’s so much fun when it comes to Halloween!

Alice in Wonderland is an iconic fairy tale that has been around for ages.  It’s got one of the best lineup of characters in all of history.   They’re all unique in personality, they’re magical, and they’re quirky for sure.  In this lovely world of the Underland the animals talk, there are amazing queens and knights, and there are some funny bandersnatches that entertain.  And we, in return, enjoy some eccentric costumes that rock!  There are a lot of Hatter wannabees out there in the world.  And why wouldn’t there be with a character this cool.  Like he says:  we live in a land full of wonder, very mysterious, and incredibly dangerous!  In order to survive you must be as mad as a hatter and I think that’s just what we’d all love to be!

Poor Alice never knew just how to take the Mad Hatter and his quirky little tea parties.  One day she happened upon the Hatter and the March Hare having a little tea, resting on the dozing Dormouse.  They were not keen on letting her seat at their table but she was persistent enough to take a chair.  They then proceeded to antagonize her and play the riddle game but since she’s a feisty woman she was able to hold her own.  However, it didn’t take long before Alice got frustrated with their behavior and got up in disgust, claiming that this was the stupidest tea party that she had ever been at.  She stormed off and soon found herself looking at a door in a tree.  She chose to use her golden key in order to enter it and wham, she entered into another chapter of her story, in the Queen’s croquet ground.  You’ve got to admit that Alice’s story is spectacular and it is so full of adventure that there is really no other that will compare! This story takes place in a fantasy land that is not only peculiar but is also very eccentric.  Not only do kids love it but adults are mesmerized by it too.  The story focuses on a literary nonsense genre, it makes you question logic, and it’s got the most anthropomorphic creatures imaginable!  This historic fairytale is here to stay and Tim Burton has mastered the concept of it!

Alice in Wonderland was written by Reverend Charles Lutwidge Dodgson who was a British mathematician at Christchurch University in Oxford.  You probably know him better by his pen name of Lewis Carroll.  The land that Alice visits in this wonderful fairytale is actually called Underland, a world that exists somewhere underneath ours.  Tim Burton’s screenwriter, Linda Woolverton, misunderstood Underland to be Wonderland and the magical name stuck and became a life of its own.   The movie sparked the inspiration of two music CD’s.  One is the motion picture soundtrack and the other is called “Almost Alice” and is a companion track featuring Avril Lavigne and other artists who were inspired by the movie.  Johnny Depp takes the Mad Hatter’s moodiness to new elevations with his many mood swings, far out makeup, and spectacular wardrobe changes that actually make him look like a human mood ring.  He’s up, he’s down, and he’s here to entertain us even though he drives those around him a little bit crazy too!  In the movie, the Hatter’s eyes are enlarged to be 10 to 15 percent larger than Johnny Depp’s own eyes.  The role of Alice was played by Mia Wasikowska who’s a tiny little five foot four inches in real life.  Boy does she change in size during this story.  When she drinks that little bit of potion called Pishsolver she shrinks to an amazing six inches.  Then she eats a little bit of cake called Upelkuchen and grows to an amazing twenty feet at one point.  Although much of this magic is created by special effects, some of it occurs with the help of an on an apple box to make her taller than those around her.  There’s no question that some of this films overall enchantment comes from the incredible costumes that were designed by Colleen Atwood.  Not only do the animals in the film appear lifelike instead of cartoonish, but the main characters are incredibly stunning and each change in costume is better than the one before it!  Be ready to have the best Halloween of your life when you choose an Alice in Wonderland costume for your holiday fun!
